Greg Furlong

Greg Furlong

Born: February 21, 1959

Canadian Greg Furlong studied at the University of Ottawa, the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto (BMus Composition 1989), where he received numerous scholarships and awards.

A former member of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Trombone Ensemble, and the Polished Brass Quintet, he has written commissions for prominent soloists and ensembles around the world. In 1991-93, for example, several of his arrangements for the Etobicoke College Institute were performed on tour in South America. In May 2000, Kevin Thompson, principal trombonist of the Malaysia Philharmonic, premiered in Kuala Lumpur the Euphonium Quintet Greg wrote for the occasion.

Greg’s music can be heard on two CD’s from Lassus Audio: “Northern Soundings” features music of Canadian composers, and “Bedlam In Bethlehem” is a recording of Christmas music for brass ensemble.

He has also been active in vocal and choral circles, writing arrangements, performing as a baritone soloist and leading the choirs Song Toronto and Just Voices in Ottawa.
