Willard Musser

Born: February 2, 1913

Mr. Musser's foremost honors include guest conducting concerts throughout Belgium, Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Canada and England. He was also awarded the Louis Sudler Award of Merit by the John Philip Sousa Foundation.

After receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ithaca College, he pursued further graduate studies at Albright College and Temple University while embarking on a career in performance and education. Performing professionally for six years under Dr. Hans Kindler and two years with Saul Caston provided numerous experiences which have been uniquely used in his teaching.

His successes as an instrumental director in secondary schools of Pennsylvania and New York led to his appointment as associate professor of music and director of bands at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. In 1956 Mr. Musser was appointed professor of music at the State University College of New York at Potsdam, where he founded the Crane Wind Ensemble. Since his retirement, he has been promoted to the status of Professor Emeritus by the Board of Trustees of SUNY.

Willard also served NYSSMA as President, Vice-President and a longtime member of its Executive Council. He has also served as a member of the state's Regents Scholarship Committee, as president of the Eastern Division of MENC, and as president of the Association of Concert Bands of America. He is an elected member of the prestigious American Bandmasters Association.

Gloria Musser

Born: October 11, 1945

A graduate of the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam, she served as Director of Instrumental Music at St. Regis Falls (NY) Central School until she opened a private music studio in Greentown, PA. Many of her former students are now highly successful and respected professional musicians throughout the United States. The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts awarded Gloria a certificate for "encouraging and supporting students recognized for their exceptional artistic achievement."
