George Masso

Born: November 17, 1926

With undergraduate (1953) and graduate (1959) degrees from Boston University, he served as first trombonist with the 314th ASF Band in Europe during World War II. In the years immediately following, he played trombone with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra (1948-49) and the Latin Quarter Orchestra of NYC (1949-50). In the mid-seventies, he also played with the Benny Goodman and Bobby Hackett bands, and continuously since then has played with The World's Greatest Jazz Band of Yank Lawson and Bob Haggart. His discography credits also include jazz greats Charlie Ventura, Bucky Pizzarelli, Butch Miles, Maxine Sullivan, George Shearing, and others too numerous to name.

In addition to this and extensive studio and club work as a freelance musician in the NYC area, Masso spent considerable time as a jazz educator, including eleven years in the Rhode Island public schools and eight years at the University of Connecticut.
