Kris Berg

Kris Berg is a best-selling big band composer and arranger for over 20 years. Kris has written charts for artists such as Kurt Elling, John Pizzarelli, Wayne Bergeron, Chris Vadala, Delfeayo Marsalis and Phil Woods, for All-State Jazz Bands in Texas, Oklahoma, Montana, Arizona and South Carolina and for professional, college and public school bands all over the world. His popular bass method book, BASS LINES IN MINUTES, has helped thousands of young bass players approach the art of the walking bass line.

Currently active as an artist / clinician for Yamaha Corporation of America, Mr. Berg has appeared at jazz festivals and camps throughout the United States and is endorsed by Bag End Loudspeakers and Acoustic Image Amplifiers. He has been selected as guest director for the IAJE Community College All-Star Jazz Band, as well as All-State Jazz Bands in Montana, Oklahoma, Maine, South Carolina, Nebraska, Arizona, Texas and Wyoming. An award winning bassist, Kris has appeared or recorded with the likes of Wayne Bergeron, Phil Woods, Kurt Elling, John Pizzarelli, Randy Brecker, Peter Erskine, Delfeayo Marsalis, Bob Mintzer, Bobby Shew, Tom “Bones” Malone, Jimmy Heath, Doc Severinsen, Clark Terry, John Fedchock, Gregg Bissonette, Chris Vadala, Kevin Mahogany, Denis DiBlasio, Frank Mantooth, Clay Jenkins, Kim Richmond and many others.

Kris’ latest release is his big band CD, “Time Management,” (MAMA Records, MAA 1046) featuring the Metroplexity Big Band with special guests Phil Woods, Wayne Bergeron, Clay Jenkins, Denis DiBlasio and Andy Timmons. “Time Management” is the follow up to his highly acclaimed 2012 release, “This Time / Last Year.” Both recordings feature Kris’ unique writing and arranging as well as many of the outstanding musicians in the Dallas area and have garnered 4 Global Music Awards.

Phil Woods remarked, “This CD is bold and as full of surprises as a hip piñata!” Russ Davis (MOJA Radio) says "(Metroplexity) takes big band to another place for the 21st century.” Metroplexity has been a featured performer at the Jazz Education Network’s Conferences and at major jazz festivals ranging from Wyoming to Texas.
