ALEXANDER'S RAGTIME BAND
by BERLIN Arr. by Red McLeod

Written by Irving Berlin in 1911, this popular American song is a sure-fire crowd-pleaser. As you'd expect, Red's arrangement incorporates a convincing mix of musical elements to sustain player and listener interest throughout. These include dramatic modulations in key (G major-D major-G major- A major), a section in which all except 1st Violins play pizzicato, and a fun-loving, hoedown version of the song at the end. Red's rehearsal suggestions in the score also describe the highlights of Berlin's illustrious songwriting career, material which can be easily converted to program notes and used to educate students. Each standard string set comes with an optional part for piano.
