Persis Vehar |
Born: September 29, 1937
Persis Vehar holds degrees from Ithaca College (BM) and the University of Michigan (MM). She studied composition with Warren Benson, Ross Lee Finney, Roberto Gerhard and Ned Rorem, and has attended seminars with Milton Babbitt, John Cage and Roger Sessions. Her works have been performed at the Eastman School of Music, Syracuse (NY) University, Ithaca College, the Manhattan School of Music, State University Colleges of New York at Fredonia, Potsdam and Buffalo, the University of Southern Mississippi, Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo, NY, Carnegie Hall in NYC, in Stuttgart, Germany, and London, England.
Her vocal and instrumental compositions, ranging from chamber music through large ensembles and including three operas, have been performed internationally.
Ms. Vehar has been published by Kendor, Shawnee Press, Tenuto, and Columbia Pictures Publications. She is a member of ASCAP and has received several successive awards from that society for her music. She was also awarded six Meet the Composer grants from the New York State Arts Council, and is listed in numerous American and international music dictionaries and encyclopedias.
