Greg Furlong

Born: February 21, 1959

Canadian Gregory Furlong studied trombone and composition at the University of Ottawa, the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto (BM Composition, 1989), where he received numerous scholarships and awards.

A former member of the Toronto Trombone Ensemble (1987-1994) and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra (1977-79), he has written numerous commissions for prominent soloists and ensembles around the world. In 1991-93, for example, several of his arrangements for the Etobicoke College Institute were performed on tour in South America. In May 2000, Kevin Thompson, principal trombonist of the Malaysia Philharmonic, premiered in Kuala Lumpur the new euphonium quintet Greg wrote for the occasion.

Greg’s music can be heard on two recent CD’s from Lassus Audio: “Northern Soundings” features music of Canadian composers, and “Bedlam In Bethlehem” is a recording of Christmas music for brass ensemble.

He is also active in vocal and choral circles, singing often as a baritone soloist in Toronto area churches since 1990.
