Charles Decker

Born: July 1, 1946

He is trumpet professor at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, and founder and coordinator of the annual Tennessee Trumpet Competition and Seminar. He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University, and the University of Texas where his teachers were Sidney Mear, Vincent Cichowicz and Raymond Crisara respectively. He was also a fellowship recipient to the Berkshire Music Center.

Decker has performed with the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Rochester Philharmonic, Colorado Philharmonic, Berkshire Music Center Orchestra, the University of Texas Faculty Brass Quintet, Austin Symphony, Knoxville Symphony, and was solo cornet and trumpet soloist with the U.S. Army Field Band of Washington, D.C. He has made two recordings with the TTU faculty brass quintet and has appeared on National Public Television concert broadcasts.

As a clinician, adjudicator, conductor and arranger, Mr. Decker has appeared at major festivals and conferences in thirteen states and numerous ITG (International Trumpet Guild) conferences. He has written for professional journals, and his brass publications are performed by high school, university and professional musicians worldwide.
